The body of a woman found at sea on Monday May 15th, 2023 has been officially identified as forty-two (42) year old Andrea Jules of Odsan, Castries. The corpse was found about six nautical miles of the shores of Pigeon Island by a local vessel and was later identified by the son of the deceased.
Jules was part of a nine individual contingent, who boarded a local vessel travelling from Martinque to Saint Lucia. According to reports, the boat encountered engine trouble and rough sea and overturned as a result. While 8 of the 9 persons were successfully rescued by the French Marine Unit, Ms. Jules is suspected to have drowned.
Upon discovery of the body, reports were conveyed to the Marine Police Unit of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force (RSLF). At about 12:35 p.m., officers attached to the Gros Islet Police Station were informed of the situation and later reported to the scene.
Police are still investigating all of the details surrounding the incident.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for a later date.
