The Saint Lucia Kings have secured their first victory in this year’s Caribbean Premier League, delivering a dominant performance against the visiting Barbados Royals.
The Kings made a strong start in the first innings, establishing a 61-run opening partnership between Faf du Plessis (45) and Johnson Charles (30). After Charles was dismissed by Jason Holder’s bowling, the Kings’ captain continued to build momentum before losing his wicket. A steady fourth-wicket partnership unfolded between the Zimbabwean pair of Sikandar Raza (23) and Sean Williams (47), stabilizing the innings and providing a platform for the finishers to conclude the initial phase at 201/6.
The second innings commenced just as promisingly for the Boys in Blue, as two early wickets tumbled in the very first over. The Royals never truly managed to recover from this shaky beginning, as wickets continued to fall consistently. A standout performance came from the 21-year-old pace bowler, Matthew Forde, who showcased his potential by claiming 3 wickets for just 12 runs, effectively dismantling the Royals’ batting lineup. Each bowler from the Kings contributed with at least one wicket, resulting in a convincing victory with a margin of 54 runs.
In a post-match interview, the Man of the Match, Forde, highlighted the team’s commitment to rebounding from Wednesday’s loss. He stated, “Obviously, we had a hard-fought loss yesterday, and the guys were disheartened as we came so close. Today, our approach was centered around positivity and giving our utmost effort. As you could observe, the team was dedicated from the very first ball.”The Kings are set to face the Guyana Amazon Warriors next, in a match that is anticipated to draw a packed crowd on Saturday.
