Eddie Hazell, President of the Saint Lucia Aquatics Federation, made history by being elected to the World Aquatics Board. This groundbreaking achievement establishes him as the first Saint Lucian and the first individual from the OECS to hold such a prestigious title. Hazell, who will lead Zone II in collaboration with Dylan Carter of Trinidad and Tobago, expressed initial reluctance due to the heavy commitment attached to the position but was inspired by the overwhelming support from peers and his passion for aquatics development.

“I hesitated a bit because I know the type of commitment that it comes with, but after being in discussions with the President of PANAM and the finance director of World Aquatics as to the role that the new generation needs to play within the development of aquatics, the president said he has given it some thought. “When we came to the election…I was overwhelmed to see the type of support I had” he added.

The upcoming infrastructure enhancements for swimmers, facilitated by the imminent construction of a new aquatic center, has instilled optimism among local athletes and facilitators. They are hopeful that Hazell’s appointment will play a crucial role in energizing the expansion of the sport in St. Lucia.
