The voice of the little ghetto boy reigned supreme at the Calypso Monarch Finals 2023. Calypsonian Ti Blacks captured the hearts of many with his thought provoking renditions of his two kaiso hits, to become St. Lucia’s new Calypso Monarch and dethrone Dezral as king.In the first round, the new king delivered “For Minelle”, a piece that served as a tribute to a battle scared former Monarch, who was the victim of a violent attack. In the song, Ti Blacks addressed the need for society to repent for its flaws, especially as it relates to violence against women. During the second round, the monarch delivered a heartfelt tune named “Ghetto Cries”. This melodious song spoke to the ills of gun violence faced by youth and the fact that their communities feel the pain of loss.
