St. Lucin sprint phenom Julien Alfred gave a solid account of herself on Monday at the World Championships in Budapest. Alfred’s performance against four of the swiftest female athletes in history at the 100m, further proved that she can compete at the highest level.The final saw the athlete completing the race in 10.93 seconds, coming in fifth place. Sha’Carri Richardson from the USA clinched the gold medal with a championship record time of 10.65 seconds, while Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce from Jamaica finished second and third respectively. Marie-Josee Ta Lou from the Ivory Coast secured the fourth position. This is the first time Alfred has fallen over this distance in 2023.
This performance has unquestionably elevated the recognition of the island even further. Saint Lucians will hope, that the sprint sensation will continue to climb to higher heights, as she prepares for Paris 2024.
