The corporate community joined the National Insurance Corporation for its revived National Sneaker Day initiative on June 28th. The event which has become an annual tradition, was started to raise awareness about the fight against non-communicable diseases on island.
This year, the NIC collaborated with the Ministry of Health’s St. Lucia Moves campaign in the hosting of this campaign. Scores of professionals, from various establishments replaced their regular work footwear with athletic shoes, to promote the benefits of living active lifestyles.
According to Shervon Alfred, Communications Manager for the NIC, the organization is ecstatic at the solidarity shown island-wide, by members of the corporate world for the program. He noted that the NIC saw it fit to play its part in fighting this scourge.
“We thought it very important to alert the public, raise awareness and say hey, this a problem on our society and we need to recognize and to do something about it.” Alfred noted. “We are saying after sneaker day [is over], don’t just put these sneakers back your closets…continue to be aware of the issue of non-communicable diseases”.
