St. Lucian born scientist, Dr. Shanan Emmanuel, is on a drive to give back to the country that molded her. Having overcome her own struggles, Emmanuel wishes to show other young people that they can do the same. A product of the community of Jacmel, she triumphed over social and financial barriers on her way to success. In spite of the challenges, the St. Lucian raised scientist, now boasts a career in gene therapeutics. This field helps treat incurable diseases through gene therapy.
As part of her upliftment campaign, Emmanuel will be managing a school support initiative, that will provide basic stationery to pupils in her community. This is due to the fact that education played a significant role in her development. The initiative will see Emmanuel and her mother provide stationery to the less fortunate students.
When asked what advice she would give to young people on how to be successful, the scientist referenced perseverance.
“I want to just share some hope and some light to encourage the young people to strive for their goals, to strive for their dreams, to be focused on whatever it is that maintains their sanity, whether it be career, whether it be family and to just focus on positive things” she said.
The date for the scholastic drive is expected to be announced in the near future.
