In a parliamentary address on Tuesday, July 11, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre announced the removal of value added tax on a select group of items, effective August 2nd. This change will see the retail prices of the items being reduced by 12.5%, for the next two years.
The items that are set to the be relieved are as follows:
• Lumber
• Cement
• Galvanize
• Steel
• Plywood
• Solar PV Systems
• Sanitary Napkins (Pads) and tampons
In a post via social media, Pierre noted that he was pleased with the changes and that they will “encourage growth and benefit the people of this country.”
